Assists in the Design, construction and maintenance of the water distribution system; field supervises construction by contractors; does related work as required. This is technical engineering work involving responsibility for field supervising construction and for assisting in the design of extensions and changes in the distribution system. General supervision is received from Senior Distribution Engineer with some leeway permitted for the exercise of independent judgment in applying engineering principles and established policy. Supervision is exercised over the work of subordinate division engineering and other personnel.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Good knowledge of modern principles and practices of hydraulic engineering as applied to the design and construction of a water distribution system; good knowledge of the principles of sanitary engineering as related to a water distribution system; good knowledge of water main construction practices from a field point of view; good knowledge of water main materials and equipment; ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with public officials; contractors and others; ability to analyze designs of water mains; ability to prepare intelligible reports of field observations; initiative; resourcefulness; good powers of observation; good judgment; good physical condition.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Four years of engineering design or construction experience at least one of which shall have been in the field of water distribution system design or construction and graduation from a college or university of recognized standing with a degree in civil engineering; or any equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to indicate ability to do the work.
