ECWA Officials Talk Lead Service Removals With WIVB-TV

ECWA Chairman Jerome Schad and Executive Engineer Leonard Kowalski recently spoke to WIVB-TV about efforts to identify and remove lead service lines in areas serviced by the Authority.

 

In a wide-ranging interview on location at an investigative site in Depew, officials discussed ECWA’s need to identify and remove all lead services within a prescribed timeframe, pursuant to new mandated guidelines put forth by the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In addition to discussing the financial and logistical challenges associated with the project, viewers were given an up-close look at the hydro-excavation process, where Authority crews and contractors use a less invasive process to determine the material used in a water service line feeding a home, business, or school.
