ECWA Completes $6.2 Million Replacement of Ball North Storage Tank in Amherst

Posted September 30, 2021

The Erie County Water Authority (ECWA) announced the completion of the replacement of the Ball North Storage Tank located on Sweet Home Road next to the University at Buffalo campus in the Town of Amherst.

The new storage facility features a 4.2 million-gallon prestressed concrete tank along with improvements in distribution system piping and the physical site surrounding the tank itself. The new storage tank will improve water storage capacity and service reliability for ECWA customers in its northeastern Erie County service area, including the towns of Amherst, Clarence, Newstead, Lancaster, Cheektowaga and Alden. The tank is currently in service and site restoration was recently completed.

This $6.2 million infrastructure investment project is funded through the ECWA’s 2021 budget, which included $55.2 million for system-wide infrastructure upgrades. The 2021 infrastructure upgrades are part of ECWA’s overall $317 million five-year infrastructure investment plan.
