Update on Pipe Replacement Project in Town of Clarence
JANUARY 17, 2018
BUFFALO, NY - The Erie County Water Authority (ECWA) is nearing completion of approximately 1,200 feet of ductile iron pipe on East Overlook Drive in the Town of Clarence. Over the next few days, this new section will be tested and disinfected before being connected to individual residents.
If all work goes well, final water main connections will be completed by Jan. 26. In addition, new fire hydrants installed as a part of this project will be placed into service no later than Jan. 24.
Upon completion, customers in the affected area will be provided service from the new sections of water main installed to replace the worst portions of old water main.
This project replaces 880 feet of pipe in poor condition and adds an additional 380 feet to complete an infrastructure loop, increasing overall service reliability.
Understanding the importance of this project, an emergency contract was approved by the ECWA Board of Commissioners due to an exceptionally high number of water leaks reported in a short period. This decision allowed funds to be made immediately available outside of normal ECWA spending regulations.
ECWA will return when weather permits in the spring to restore those areas disturbed by the installation of the new sections of water main.
