ECWA RELEASES 2016 ANNUAL WATER QUALITY REPORTReport shows water provided by ECWA meets or exceeds regulatory standards
May 18, 2017
The Erie County Water Authority (ECWA) is pleased to announce the release of its 2016 Annual Water Quality Report (AWQR). This report fulfills the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) requirement for public water suppliers to annually prepare and deliver a consumer confidence report.
The report also provides details on the source of the drinking water, shows water quality test results for 2016 and contains other important information about water and health.
The ECWA's Chairman Robert Anderson and Director of Water Quality Paul Whittam are satisfied with the results of this year's report.
"Our region is fortunate to have access to excellent water sources," Anderson said. "However, a great deal of the credit for our high-quality drinking water goes to the dedicated professionals who work around-the-clock to ensure safe water is delivered to our customers."
New York State has some of the highest standards for drinking water in the country, often exceeding the national requirements set by the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for some regulated contaminants.
"The State Health Department's requirements are frequently much more stringent than the EPA's," Whittam said. "Because of this, and because our facilities' use state-of-the art technology and equipment, our customers can be confident that we are providing them with safe, high-quality drinking water."
